Introduction

This port is located in the East Mediterranean region of Egypt and holds a rich historical significance dating back to the time of the pharaohs. During the French attack on Egypt, remnants of pharaohs' monuments, including a portion of the Narous statue made of granite, were discovered at Damietta. This historical find was later relocated to the Louvre Museum.

Recognized as one of the oldest ports in Egypt, Damietta serves a crucial role in alleviating the load on other Egyptian ports. The ambitious project, initiated to establish Damietta Port, began with studies and executive efforts. In 1986, the project materialized into reality, and since then, Damietta has evolved into the most vital port in the East Mediterranean region.

Damietta port plays a pivotal role in Egypt's import and export activities. It handles the exportation of agricultural products, fertilizers, and furniture. On the flip side, the port manages imports that include cement, grain, general cargo, and containers. This dynamic exchange positions Damietta as a key player in the economic landscape of the East Mediterranean.

Economic Overview

As Africa's second-largest economy, Egypt is working towards its 2030 Vision, focusing on market diversification and energy infrastructure improvements. Positive strides include better fiscal and external accounts, but challenges persist in an underperforming private sector and low labor force participation. On a positive note, there has been an expansion of credit access, fostering entrepreneurial growth and innovation. Balancing these aspects will be crucial for unlocking the full economic potential and achieving sustainable development.
